“While my strong desire was to leave Congress at the end of this year, since my announcement, I have received countless calls from constituents, colleagues, and President Trump urging me to reconsider,” Green said in a statement to Fox News Digital.
“I will be running for re-election so I can be here on Day 1 next year to help President Trump end this border crisis once and for all.”
So says House Homeland Security Committee Chair Mark Green (R-Tenn.) who announced his decision to retire on Feb. 14, having led the push to impeach Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Mark Green took Marsha Blackburn’s seat following her ascension to the Senate. Green played an instrumental role in drafting the House border security bill, HR 2, also known as the Secure the Border Act of 2023. A day after the Mayorkas impeachment vote, he announced he would retire after the completion of his current term, joining dozens of his colleagues in heading for the exits after a tumultuous and generally useless current Congress.
